PAELA’s 15th Annual Winter Conference took place on February 23-25, 2023. Handouts for PAELA Members can be found once you Login to the Members Only Section.  The 2024 Winter Meeting is scheduled for February 22-24 at the Omni Bedford Springs Resort in Bedford, PA.

This program on guardianship law primarily addressed the importance and role of counsel for the alleged incapacitated person and the use of less restrict alternatives to guardianship. Discussion questions will include: How do we assure that a person who is facing or in guardianship is guaranteed due process?  What is the role of counsel and the role of the court in appointing counsel for an alleged incapacitated person and/or a person seeking to have their guardianship limited or terminated?   How can we recognize less restrictive alternatives to guardianship, including powers of attorney, health care representatives, and Supported Decision-Making?  How can we implement meaningful limited guardianships?   What reforms are being considered in Pennsylvania?
